Portraits in Watercolour
Portraiture is never easy. Of all the art we make, human faces are the most challenging because perfect resemblance is what we want to see. And so the success of any portrait painting lies in how closely it resembles the person who was painted. I love the challenge of painting a portrait and I have had my fair share of misses, but each one teaches me something new – more factors to consider in order to achieve success more often.
Portraits are often commissioned to commemorate milestones such as birthdays, anniversaries and weddings. I usually use watercolour to paint portraits with the occasional use of pencil or gouache.
Here are some portraits I have painted.
